Arsenal made the mistake of selling Robin van Persie to Manchester United in 2012.

Arsenal will look to avoid past mistakes this summer by preventing Alexis Sanchez from joining a Premier League rival, according to reports.

Sanchez, the former Barcelona forward who stars in the Arsenal team, is believed to be keen to move away from the Emirates Stadium at the end of this campaign, after growing frustrated at the club’s lack of success.

Should a move transpire, Arsenal will forbid the 28-year-old Chilean from joining a Premier League rival, according to the Daily Mail, as Chelsea and Manchester City have shown interest.

The north London club was stung after allowing Dutch striker Robin van Persie to join Manchester United in 2012.

Van Persie went on to help United to the Premier League title the following year and lift the Community Shield, equalling the same number of trophies he won at Arsenal in less than half the time.

Sanchez, meanwhile, is expected to feature in Arsenal’s last-16 Champions League tie with Bayern Munich on Tuesday, as the English side looks to overturn a 5-1 deficit from the first leg.
